Christmas Gnome 4-H Project

I can't take total credit for this as I saw something like it on pinterest.  I modified it to make it more kid friendly.

I had several adults request the directions, it's very easy.

Materials:

1 pine cone
yarn of your choice, I used a thicker type that looked like hair
piece of cardboard - 4" - 5"
felt square 5" or 6" depends on size of pine cone
pom pom ball
small wood furniture button
hot glue

Wrap your yarn loosely around the cardboard, we did 20 times.  Cut the yarn at edge of cardboard.  Cut another piece of yarn about 8".  Slide the yarn bundle off the cardboard making sure to keep it in a loop.  Take the extra piece of yarn and tie it in the middle of the loops - tightly and double knot.  Cut the loop ends to make the fluffy beard.

With the extra yarn you tied in the middle, tie that around the bottom of the pine cone and cut off the ends.

Fold the ends of your felt square to make a cone.  Hot glue the seam together.

Cut the pointed end to round off into a circle, so the end of the cap is round.  Put the cap on the top of the pine cone all the way down to the beard, hot glue it all around the edge.

For the nose, I used those little furniture buttons.  Hot glue at the edge of the cap, on the beard.

Hot glue a pom pom on the end of cap.  You could decorate the cap too, I could see felt vines and leaves.  If you had some handy stitching skills you could embroider the cap and hand sew the seam closed.  It's an easy project or as fancy as you wanted.  Thanks for the interest.

Blessings from Ringle, Wisconsin.
