Social Media Experiment

It "snuck" up on us....I fought "it" for a long time....however, it has changed our lives - not for the better either....know what it is?

Yep, this...not so much blogging, but other venues of social media.   I suppose some blogs and bloggers use their posts to be negative or depressing...I choose not to do that, nor read those that do.  It's hard enough scrolling past a picture of a dog with a trap on it's foot (I had to do that today!).

It's not healthy to have that much negativity!  Images, rants, politics, religion, sick kids, sad animals.....It's too much!  I'm an optimist, hopeful for the future - "this" stuff lately, draggin' me down!

Then we have the "look at me, what I did, how great I am doing it, how pretty, how organized, how....you pick one" - not good for any one's self esteem.

Then we have the LIKES, the numbers....the comments....the shares.....the......ya, I'm back in high school....unpopular once again.  Really, this is how "it" can make people feel!

Al and I were talking about all of this and it had my starting a little experiment - unbeknownst to my followers.  It worked like a charm - really, exactly what I thought.  You all are sick of it too.

I posted several little blurbs on facebook, instagram and even on here.  Just as I expected, most popular ones....pictures of flowers, soup recipe, funny little story of how I peed my pants...for real...lots of likes and comments on that one.  The other posts, even when I think they hold awesome content....not so much!

So, I guess, I post this today to encourage those who happen upon this post to think about being positive, funny, uplifting not to mention authentic!  Peed my pants...no one tells that on themselves, but it was funny!

I can't control what happens at the boarder, in this country, your country, who has benefits, who doesn't, how we protect ourselves, fake news, hate news, how or why....too many options to list and you know what I mean!  And, as this little experiment showed me....no one cares or is reading anyway!  We can't change someone else's opinion with negative posts - we just can't - it only drives us apart!  Oh, you can post, "if you don't like this scroll past or this is my site I can write whatever I want" all that is true!  However, think about how it - what we post will be in the cloud somewhere forever.

I CAN however, control what I POST, SHARE, LIKE in my little corner of the world, my edge of the cloud.  After all, every cloud has a silver lining - be that!

Living Estate Sale for Jim & Rosie Coenen

A few months back, I had a call to look at some items that were for sale.  When I entered the home, I noticed some pictures of "boys" I went to high school with.  I said "hey are you Luke's mom?"  Well, what do you know....anyway, we talked about what would be best for them and we decided to do a living estate sale at end of June.  They will be selling their home and moving to a newer apartment complex for the "elderly."  I have had 3 calls from parents of high school classmates - all 3 are moving to that same complex.  I'm involved in helping sell for all 3 too....busy, busy.

With that said, we are doing their sale this Friday and Saturday, June 29 and 30th.  They live at 4803 Weston Ave., Weston, WI.  If you happen to live close, come on over.

Here are some of the items we will have for sale:

The market is flooded right now with sales and such...so, I'm praying it all goes well for them.

Delivery Service

What is a delivery service?  (thanks Google):  Most consumer goods are delivered from a point of production (factory or farm) through one or more points of storage (warehouses) to a point of sale (retail store), where the consumer buys the good and is responsible for its transportation to point of consumption.

For the past several months, nay I say maybe longer (wink, wink), I've been the delivery service.  I've picked and purchased items, drove to my "warehouse (s)" and some....may have reached the retail store.  However, some has not!

Last summer, when I sold at my friend's antique mall, we did "Wacky Wednesday" sales in her parking lot.  What I didn't sell, I donated on my way home.  I cleaned out a portion of my "warehouse."  I have to think of something like that to do again this year.

You know, I've set up and set up at, a few little markets recently.  I've noticed that the market is down.   Maybe it's summer, too many weddings, vacations, graduation parties, maybe it's too hot and maybe, just maybe it's flooded.   It's rummage season here.   Living in the "Frozen Tundra" we don't do that all year like other areas.  When it's rummage time - we rummage!

My husband, Al said, "You know, just put it back and keep it until people are willing to buy it.  You have some awesome items, don't give it away now!"  That's kind of a big deal, because he is usually the one pushing me to get rid of it.  He did move some of my "inventory" from his building to the outside of mine....it's rustic...it can get wet.

I've also noticed something else, I have been getting a lot of calls for buy outs.  The most recent one, I actually had to say no to, as I don't have the room.  The one before that, I couldn't afford, so I'm listing it on my Town Hall Trinkets On Line Estate Sale:

I could have "low balled" her, but she needs a new roof.  That is why she is selling some of these treasures and they are super nice things, so I'm trying to help her get the best price.

Anyway, I started this talking about "Delivery Service" - yes, I get easily sidetracked - but, hey it works in the theme of this post.  Hahaha

I work a lot and it's a lot of work!  Tuesday, I started working at my business as soon as I woke...5:30 am (social media posts, unloading van, loading tables, doing an afternoon/evening estate sale) until I fell asleep...10 pm?  It's been like this for a few weeks and we are doing another estate sale next week.  I'm not complaining - thank the Lord He is providing Lisa and I some sales.  I just wanted to point out that sometimes the delivery doesn't get delivered....the way you want it to.

I don't know exactly how I will unload some of my inventory in my warehouse.  But, I do have a few fun "new" ideas.  I've been told that "there are no new ideas" in this business.  However, I still keep coming up with stuff no else does....LOL...or wants to do.... maybe would be better to say.

Vintage Photo Shoot

My daughter, Justine, did an amazing job capturing these moments on Sunday - in the heat and humidity - with deer flies and mosquitoes (wink, wink).

I recently purchased a box of vintage dresses from an 102 year old client.  She is so sweet!   She told her daughter, "when it's my time and I'm gone, I want Jacky to do my estate sale."  I don't know how I feel about that...but, I appreciate hearing it from her and have been blessed to know it.

Anyway, my niece Natalee and her friend Evie were my models for some of the dresses.  They are adorable.

Here is my Instagram post:

Sometimes I put stuff on Instagram that I don't do on here, so if you are on there, go and follow me, I will follow back!

I will be selling these, I wanted to put on Etsy...we will see if they even make it there....thanks!

Cream of Asparagus Soups

We had an abundant crop of asparagus.  We ate, we shared and I made soup - 2 types.

Cream of Asparagus and Chive Soup

Cream of Asparagus and Vegetable Soup

I posted the first picture on my instagram and had several ladies ask for my recipe.  I didn't have one....I just made it.  I decided to make it again and this time write it down.

Start with 4 C water or broth - up to you
1/2 large sweet onion - if you like onion put in whole one
1/4 t - dried thyme
1/4 t - garlic powder
2 bay leaves
S & P

Put in kettle and start to boil.

Add:

4 C diced asparagus
2 T butter

Stop here if you only want cream of asparagus soup

2 C diced potato
2 C diced mushrooms
You could add any other veggies you like

Continue to boil until the veggies are super soft.

Remove the bay leaves and pour contents into a blender or use emulsion blender (I did both on the last one...).

Pour back into the kettle.  If this is too thick to your liking add another cup of water or stock, 2 T butter and 1/2 C heavy cream.

To make the Cream of Asparagus and Chive, it is at this point you cut up some chives, I even added the purple blossoms.

For a pretty presentation, I added some chopped chives, chive blossoms and sliced mushroom to the soups.

Super EASY - Enjoy!
