Evelyn's Family Comes to Wisconsin

NOTE:  This is a fictional story I created to be the premiss of our 3 VIRTUAL sales.  Week 1 was "I Do," week 2 was "Barn Yard" and this is our final week "Farmer's Wife."  We follow along in Evelyn's journey from June bride to farmer's wife.  The VIRTUAL event will be, Saturday, June 20.  We will post photos of what is for sale that morning.  These blog posts will give clues as to what you may expect in each vignette.

If you are new to the story, go back in the previous blog posts to find out about Evelyn & Williams's story.

Evelyn could see the cloud of dust from the dry road, she knew it was them.  She let the old screen door slam as she ran down the driveway to meet her family.  Horns were honking, dogs barking, Williams family coming from all directions of the farm and barn yard.  "Evelyn!" she could hear her mama's voice above all the noise.  The car hardly came to a stop when Evelyn's mom flung the door open and ran to hug her.  "I've missed you!" both were crying happy tears.  "Oh, where are my manners?"  Evelyn said as she began to give all the introductions.

Frank reached his hand to William, to which William grabbed and pulled Frank to his chest.  As the two embraced, the years of war time and brotherhood bond was unmistakeable in that moment.  Dorothy, wiped her tears with the corner of her apron as she turned to Frank, "well, here is the man that saved my son!"  She grabbed him, as she kissed the side of his face, she whispered in his ear "thank you!"  "Well, you all must be hungry" Dorothy said.  "Come on Evelyn, we have some mouths to feed."

It wasnt long after the meal, that Evelyn saw Fran and Mary walking up the drive.  "Oh, I'm so happy you came.  You're just in time for some rhubarb crunch."  As Evelyn made the introductions to family, she made sure to tell of Fred's sacrfice for his country.  As Fran listened, tears filled her eyes.  As Frank reached to shake Fran's hand, he gave her his hankerchief.  "your husband sounds like a real hero" Frank said.  Fran looked into his eyes, "thank you for saying so."  "Who is this little cutie?"  Frank asked while pulling a nickle from behind Mary's ear.   "Well, look at that" Frank said as he handed it to Mary.  "Mommy, I had a nickle behind my ear!"  They all laughed.  It was a wonderful evening of family and friends.  Evelyn's match making plans couldn't be going any better.  She winked at William several times during the evening, to which he just shook his head in response.

Evelyn's mom brought her a little piece of the eastern shore to Wisconsin.   "Well, I thought maybe you were missing the ocean" her mother said.  "Oh, I have!  The smells and sounds,  it's just so different here.  I have new things to smell and hear...some not as pleasant as the seashore" Evelyn laughed as she said it.  "Well honey, I'm so proud of the life you created for yourself.  Who would have ever thought, 'Evelyn a Farmer's Wife', surly not I" her mother said.  "Not to mention, you're a cheese maker!  I couldn't have prayed for a better life for you.  God is good!"  "Yes, mama, he surely is!"

Follow along tomorrow as we will be selling vignettes of items I have pictured in these posts in addition to more in the EVENT:

Thank you for following along in the story.  I've really enjoyed writing these little posts.  Fiction is so much better than our current reality.  Evelyn is right, God is Good, even when we can't wrap our minds around what is going on - He is still in control.

Blessings from Ringle, Wisconsin.
