Jacky's Craft Camp - Day 1 - Hula Hoop Rugs

This week I am hosting "Jacky's Craft Camp."  I do this for our 4-H club and others who ask to come.  Today was Day 1 - Hula Hoop Rugs.  I saw this idea on pinterest here:  http://spoonful.com/crafts/hula-hoop-rug  Here are a few pictures of us making our rugs.

You make this out of old t-shirts.  Lay out your shirt and mark it every 1".  Cut across the shirt and make the strips you will weave with.  Stretch 11 strips around a hula hoop - your loom - and tie on one strip with a loop knot.  Keep adding your t-shirt loops with a loop knot.  Then weave - over, under.  Her directions are really good.

The kids took home their unfinished projects to keep working on.  Really fun recycle project.  Day 2 - tomorrow.

Blessings from Ringle, Wisconsin.

  1. Good morning...what a fantastic fun project.
Can't wait to see a finished rug.
Now the hoop...I'm assuming you release the edges when all done - I can't imagine the lump you would have if not.
I think my granddaughter would love this project...I WILL BE BACK FOR MORE INFORMATION.

  2. What a great idea! I'm going to have to go check out the directions. Fair season is soon going to be here, and we are all getting excited for new projects.
