Christmas Decorating Vintage Style

I LOVE old things!  I like to decorate my home with the nostalgia of Christmas past.  I collect many things, especially things that “call” to me.  They don’t have to be in perfect shape – in fact, I like the look of used.

Here is a little group of Angels I have in my entry

The Buyer’s Choice angels I bought at a thrift shop in Colby, WI.  The porcelain Nativity was from one of my “buy out estates”.  The felt table cloth I just bought this year at Goodwill – I love it!  The Tavern Candle angels are from here and there…

The angel NOEL I’ve had for all of my 23 years of marriage.  We use to have one of these when I was growing up.

“And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.”  Luke 2:12-14

I have a collection of antique and vintage candy dishes.  Al started my collection, as he has many memories of candy like this at his Grandma's house.

Al grew up in the Navy and the spent many years in Maryland at the Naval Academy.  It was there that his mom, Marlene, first saw these little felt dolls.  They are Annalee Dolls.  I liked them too, so over the years, we have added some to her collection as gifts.  I started collecting them too.  The vintage ones (pre late 1990’s) were actually made in Meredith, New Hampshire.  Now they are made in China.  I have different ones for other holidays.

Do you remember the knee huggers – those cute little elves?  I’ve sold so many of them over the years – I did keep a few for me.  I also love those little gnomes – some are made of pine cones and spun cotton.

  2. I think I like your angel NOEL the best, but the pine cone gnomes bring back memories. We had a table top, lighted tree with a gnome sitting under it. He sat on a red and white mushroom, next to a lighted potbelly stove. So kitschy!
