Something for the Groom - Jon

I made this for a decoration at the wedding

Jon is in the School of Architecture at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee.  He has been doing really good and has actually received some awards for his design projects.

When we bought out that estate in June, the gentleman had this drafting table.

When I was thinking about decorations at the wedding, I wanted to represent the groom and his interests too.  I walked past this table the other day and thought...I know what to do with this.  This scripture instantly came to mind, as it is Anna's favorite and a cornerstone theme to her life as she battled cancer.  It also represents Jon's career choice.

I sanded down the top, as there were words carved into it.

I painted 2 coats of regular acrylic artist paint.  I used burnt umber as their apartment cupboards and walls are all brown tones.

I let it dry overnight.  I did buy a stencil set, but it was too small.  I looked on line to try to print off the words and then use carbon paper to transfer to the top - of course, our printer ran out of ink.  So, I just sat down and decided to free hand it.  I used chalk to make the lines and write out the verse.

This was a good idea, as when I first wrote it out, it was too big.  All I had to do was wipe it off and write it again.  I decided to paint right over the chalk letters.

Once I had one coat on, I decided to highlight the words PLAN in yellow, which is her wedding color and the words HOPE and FUTURE in blue.  I am so happy with how it turned out.  Now all I have to do is put on the gel stain and wax over the whole piece.  I am so pleased with how this turned out!

I will post pictures of how we set this up at the wedding.

Blessings from Ringle, Wisconsin.
