January–Interesting Facts

introsnowman

JANUARY:  Just some interesting things I found out about this month.  Up here in Wisconsin, normally it is cold.  However, this year, we have been blessed with warmer days.

January holds new hope, resolutions, reflections (spiritually and financially) exercise and diet plans, reorganizing, garden dreams and plans and lists for the new year.

JANUARY Quotes:

“Slow as molasses in January”

“You’d be so lean, that blast of January, would blow you through and through.  Now, my fair’st friend, I would I had some flowers o’ the spring that might become your time of day.”  William Shakespeare, The Winter’s Tale

“It is the memory that enables a person to gather roses in January”

JANUARY Facts:

The word January comes from the word ianua – means door.  Janus is the god of the doorway and gates.  January is the first month and doorway to the year.  January has 31 days, birthstone is garnet and flower is carnation.

JANUARY is National:  Hobby Month, Hot Tea Month, Oatmeal Month and Blood Donor Month.

JANUARY things to do:  write thank you cards for your gifts; go through your decorations, closets and pantry – donate unwanted items; get tax papers in order; volunteer somewhere – share your talents and gifts; study new seed catalogs; have Friday night board game night; rent and watch some classic old movies with your children; read some “classics” together as a family; make some snow angels, go sledding and ice skating; “take on” a challenging recipe; learn how to do something new – sign up for a knitting class.

    1. I always have a hard time catching up with the New Year since half our family has a birthday within the first two weeks! I like reading stuff like this- it makes me smile. My favorite February quote is: Whiter than a Yooper in February!
