A Valentine

With my pretty dress and ribbon, and new shoes that brightly shine, Don’t you think I look nice enough to be somebody’s Valentine?

Some “old” Valentine greetings:

Keep this token I send today, Till your sight is dim and your hair is grey.

Your cheeks are red and your eyes are blue; That’s one reason I am fond of you.

Others with their ready tongues may be more out-spoken, but my ever faithful love Is sent you in this token.

I send you a friendly greeting upon St. Valentine’s Day; May all your days be happy and success attend your way.

February Poem:

Though February storms may rage, And chilling winds may blow, A sunny smile or two from you, will set my heart aglow.

LEAP YEAR:

In order to keep in line with the Earth’s revolutions around the sun, an extra day is added every 4 years to the month of February.  Folklore states that on a leap year, a young lady may ask a young man to marry her.  If he refuses to accept her engagement, he was obligated to pay her with a give of 12 gloves.  Legend say that the gift of gloves would hide her hand from not having an engagement ring and therefore cause her less embarrassment from the refusal.

For those with a birthday on a leap year, their parents have the option of selecting the day to be either February 28 or March 1.

PRESIDENT’S DAY:  American’s celebrate George Washington and Abraham Lincoln’s birthdays together on the 3rd Monday in February – a holiday called President’s Day.

I hope you enjoyed these facts about February!

Blessings from Wisconsin.
