Sour Milk Coffee Cake

I couldn't stand to throw away some milk that turned sour - with just the 2 of us now, this has happened a few times.  Women have been baking with sour milk forever - I just haven't.  I looked through some recipes, but couldn't find something I wanted to make.  So, I decided to make one up.

Sour Milk Coffee Cake:

1 C shortening
zest and juice of 1 lemon
3/4 C white sugar
3/4 C brown sugar

Cream together, add

2 eggs
1 t vanilla
1/2 t salt
1 t baking powder
4 C flour

blend together, add

1 C sour milk

Mix well.  This will be enough for 2 round coffee cake pans or 1 rectangle pan.  The dough will be thick, but spoon into a prepared pan.  Top with fruit of your choice.  I did blackberries and raspberries - you could use really anything you like, apple slices, cherries, chocolate chips - be creative.

Then top with the following crumble:

1/2 C flour
1/2 C butter
1/2 C brown sugar
1 T cinnamon

Bake at 325-350 until done.  Once cooled drizzle with powder sugar glaze.

Enjoy!

Blessings from Ringle, Wisconsin.
