Motivation Monday - Self Control

We all have challenges in our lives that require us to exercise self control.  I personally have a wide range of challenges.  I feel I have made improvements in myself that I am proud of.  Some of them are reflected on the external - others are internal.  The internal ones are the hardest!

When one is under stress or in a stressful situation, we often don't react or respond in a way that reflects self control.  I admire my friends who can.  I have a friend who rarely, or never says anything bad about anyone!  She might share her opinion of something, but is quick to stop before it crosses over to gossip.  I admire that Renee.  Stacy and I even have a saying now...."I want to be more like Renee..."

This week, fair week, has been unusually hard for me.  I had a relationship with a friend for many years that recently changed.  It has been a hard year, as I don't really know what happened.  After this week, I get a feeling it has something to do with me.  I guess, I'm clueless.

Anyway, the "old Jacky" kept trying to rear her ugly head and go out of her way to "figure it all out..."  Then, I stopped, stepped back and thought about this...."not every situation is meant for you to change, but the situation is meant to change you for the better."  I love that.  Oh, I did struggle....trying to keep myself under self control.  I did share a few of my unpleasant thoughts with family and close friends - like I said, it has been hard - I now regret that.

Early Sunday morning, while working in the kitchen, I was listening to Pastor John Haggee preaching.   His sermon was on self control - was that a coincidence?  I think not, I needed to be reminded of this - thank you Lord for using this to help me.  I'm not Baptist and rarely listen to sermons on Sunday morning.  His message had many significant points that applied to my week.  None more than this one..."those who can not control themselves, destroy themselves."  I liked that too.  In fact, when I returned to the fair, I had to quote that to myself several times!   It actually helped me.

That quote can apply to ALL self control issues!  When one doesn't control themselves, take responsibility for themselves they will destroy themselves, families and reputation.  Don't make excuses or blame others for your lack of self control.   The only one in control of you is YOU!  I'm preaching to me right now.

I know, I don't like me or how I feel when I lack self control.  So, my daily challenge is to keep reminding myself of this.

Skillet!

This is fair week!  The Wisconsin Valley Fair actually was able to bring in SKILLET, one of my favorite bands.  They are Christian rock - well, more rock at times...I love the lyrics and lead singer's voice!  Anyway, you know the old saying, it's not what you know, but who you know.... Well, I know an amazing friend who gave us some meet and greet wrist bands.  My great-nephew, Caleb, loves SKILLET too.  Here is our picture.

I would have to say, that this concert was one of the best at the fair in all the years we have been going - 16 yrs.  I'm sure country fans would disagree - we had Hunter Hayes last year.
My friends on the fair board came over and told us that there was a family that came from Chicago to see them.   The lady next to us was from LaCrosse, WI, and drove 3 hours.  Skillet sounded as good as they do on the radio.  When they were done - the lady next to us said "so worth the drive!"

It was awesome!  Tonight is Theory of a Deadman, which is one of Al's favorite bands - 2 nights of rock - I can't believe it.
Off to the fair....

Anna's PinUp Bachelorette Party

Our daughter Justine takes pictures as a side business, she came up with the idea or Anna's bachelorette party to do pin-up pictures.  We set up little vignettes out here on the farm.  This is a sample of what she did.  So cute!

Sausage Kale Garden Soup

Sausage Kale Garden Soup

This soup is so good.

I planted 2 types of Kale this year - regular and Russian (which is really peppery)

All I do is take a scissors and cut off the tops.  Hopefully it will grow again like lettuce.

Brown a pound of pork sausage - ours home raised.

Add garlic and onions

Saute onions and garlic with sausage.  Add 2 cups diced celery and 2 cups diced carrots with meat mixture.

Add 5 cups chicken broth and 5 cups of water

Add 2 cups peas

Add 2 cups cooked rice

Wash kale and pull the leaves through your hand to remove the stem.  I tore the leaves into smaller pieces.  Add 3 cups of kale.

The soup was hot, so once I added the kale I turned it off and just put the lid on to wilt the kale.

This makes a huge kettle of soup - I'm feeding some extra girls tonight.  You can adjust the amount or freeze it.

Willy Nilly Friday Five

Willy-Nilly Friday Five is a new blog hop for me, that I'm joining in on today.  I believe you post about things that happened during your week.  Here goes.

1.  My favorite hen, Martha,  hatched out 10 chicks in my flower bed under the hosta plants.

2.  My daughter's bridal shower - we made all kinds of food in cups and tiny sandwiches.  It was vintage themed - Recipe for Love.

3.  I helped at our pre-fair cake review.  These girls are in my club - I'm so proud of them - they are so talented!

4.  I saw a tweet and instagram post from our State Representative asking people to send this little boy a birthday card.  As a mother of a child cancer survivor - this really touched me.  It was something so simple to do.  Feel free to send him a birthday card as well.

5.  I was on a vendor waiting list for a new antique, vintage shop.  The owner is renovating the upstairs and asked me to be a part of it.  I'm so happy.  I will be moving in in September.

So, this has been my willy-nilly week.

Baked Omelet

Baked Omelet

This idea was actually my daughter Anna's.  She makes the best broccoli and cheese baked eggs!  This is so easy.  Would be good for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Pick the ingredients you want in your omelet.  Break up some bread - any bread - put in a well buttered casserole dish.

Put your extras right on top of the bread.  Beat your eggs with a splash of milk, pour right on top of the bread and "extras" and put cheese on top.  Cover and cook at 350 until the sides are slightly pulled away from the dish.

So yummy!  Blessings from Ringle, Wisconsin.

My New Vendor Booth - In The Works

Most of you know that I have been searching for a new place to sell.  Sadly, Grand Repeats, will no longer have vendor spaces available upstairs.  A few weeks ago, I went on a road trip to look at possible selling spaces.  I have decided that I am going to set up a booth at Water Street Vintage, LLC:  Water Street Vintage, LLC  In New London, WI, which is over an hour drive from my farm.

When I went to see the shop, I really liked it.  Actually, it reminded me of the Junk Bonanza that I love going to in MN.  I was put on a waiting list, as they are opening the upstairs.  (I know, I always seem to end up with booths that need me climb stairs...).  I guess, I got in....here is a picture of my booth in progress.

My booth will be right at the top of the steps.  I will have 3 open sides - which I like - I can put up screens, shutters, towers, etc. and make 3D vignettes.  I'm pretty excited.

I love that I am starting in September.  I hope to take full advantage of the holiday selling season.  I know my "freaky" art will fit in here.

I have been sorting items for another few sales at the farm - I have been saving items for this booth as well.

Check out the page link above and "like" it.  She does a good job posting pictures - you just might see my booth in the fall.  Thanks.
