12 Days Before Christmas Give Away - Day 6

I'm hosting a 12 Days Before Christmas Give Away Event:
https://www.facebook.com/events/583713522363122/

Day 6 - Wool blanket and a Bird Book (this is Dicky Bird's Nest after all!) I love the art work and quotes!

I promise not all these give aways will be wool, only a majority of them...teehee.  Hygee Christmas is wool for sure!

I sold at a store in Wausau years ago called Grand Repeats.  The shop owner, Gloria, said something about me that I think on quite a bit.  "That Jacky, she knows no stranger."  Part of that reason may fall somewhere in the "spectrum" of what makes me, me.  I DO make it a point to talk to people.  Just yesterday, while in line at the grocery store, the gentleman ahead of me had like 15 containers of mushrooms and 5 of butter.  Now come on, you know I'm going to ask....well, I can tell you the who, what, where and even the how (recipe) of the reason.  I just can't help myself at times...when I see something I want to know about, I ask and ask, I may even ask again.   Haha...it's not a nosy thing...we all know those types of people....I just get fixated on something and I have to know about it.  I'm really interested, to easy my curiosity.  I'm sure that's "something"...called something...but, it is what makes me, me.

I say all of that to tell you, when I sell an item, I usually tell the story behind it.  I usually know it, because I buy directly from people or a family - like a whole estate.  One can learn a lot from a person, when they clean out their house.  So, I pass on that information, the history, of the item to my customer.

This past year, while selling at a flea market, a lady picked up an item of mine.  I ran (I do that too...wink, wink) over to her and started telling her all about it.  Because, I like to know about "it" when I buy it.  Most of my customers like this.  However, this lady said to me "you can quit 'selling' it now, I'm going to buy it"  - she was a bit snotty.....and I said "HEY, don't get offended....I do this to everyone!  Don't buy it if you don't want it, I don't care!"   She did......LOL

So, this wool blanket.....do you want to know the story? or not?  I've started asking my customers now thanks to that lady.....ahhahaha  Well, it's my blog and I'll tell the story if I want to......

My friend, Renee and I have been going to Oronoco Gold Rush Days for several years.  It's actually a weekend of 2 huge flea markets in Oronoco and Rochester, MN.  I bought this blanket from that flea market, from one of our favorite vendors, whom I've bought several blankets and sweaters from.  Yes, I go to flea markets and I buy too!

When I buy wool, I look for the woolen mill tag to identify where it came from.  Nothing tickles me more than to see Merrill Woolen Works - Merrill, Wisconsin.  This one is from Faribault Woolen Mill, Co. - Faribault, Minnesota.   You can read about the history of how the "carding" started and was powered by a horse named Jenny here:

To quote Paul Harvey "and now you know the rest of the story."  Knowing any story of an item, to me, makes the item more personal.  That, too, is part of the reason why I can't part with some of the items in an estate buy out.  Once, I get to know the decedent through their items, it becomes personal to me.  I've made progress in "letting it go" this year.

So this give away is for 1 very Chistmassy Faribo fluff-loomed wool blanket and Flight Plans - A Bird's-Eye View of Life book by MaryJo Koch.  (a thrifting find).

Thanks for all the Likes, Comments and Shares!
Blessings from Ringle, Wisconsin.

  1. Loved the owl book and so true. I asked a lady next to me at the DMV while waiting to get my car license tab if she could teach me how to purl. She was knitted dish cloths. Well she gave me her project and showed me how to do it. I think you and I are truly long lost sisters....HE HE Your wool is awesome too! Janice

  2. Love it! Yes, it’s the sharing of time and space that the item has been through, the lives that went on around it,... makes it all the more interesting! Keep telling the stories!!
