This was our daughter Justine's Bedroom. She married in 2014 as did our other daughter, Anna. Anyway, this room became the "store it/stash it" room and close the door. Well, it's time, don't you think?! Our plans are to rip up that 1990's carpet, paint her gold ceiling and pink walls and turn this into the official "sleep over at grandma and grandpa's" room. We probably won't finish it before summer and garden begins, but we started it.
Where to go now with all that stuff?
The only other empty room in our house. Al boxed up all kinds of things and stacked them in here. I promised him...that I would go through it all...1 box at a time. Now, if it was up there, I probably wanted it or thought I "needed it." I started with paper work. Now, why did I keep 2 decades of paid bills....just why?? We have 4 boxes to burn now.
Some of these tubs were hard as in memories. I actually spent hours in the "cancer" tub from Anna's year of chemotherapy, radiation and removal of port. She was 11. I was the timekeeper of all of this, now I am passing it on to her to do with what she wants. So many articles in the paper, photos of fundraisers, cards from friends and family. Just everything I was dreading doing. But, I turned it around, I am blessed to be able to do this. I'm being blessed again, by the outpouring of love and support shown to us during this difficult time. Im so happy I did this.
So, my goal is, a tub a day, keeps hoarding away....
I didn't win of these when I was in 5th grade, but I did award myself one from one of our estates (haha).
I found this, did you have one?
My children are lucky I forgot I bought this bumpersticker. I fully intended to put it on our van.
Then I went down a rabbit hole of photos. These were from a flea market I set up at our friend's, family owned butchering/meat shop. I did these between 2005-2011. Oh, I wish I still had that quilt.
I found this too, now it is on my nightstand.
So, I have been doing this, while the weather is doing this
That was yesterday's forecast....it just kept increasing to this
We live near Wausau - 24-36"
So, I have a chicken carcass simmering for soup, Al is on round 2 of plowing with the tractor, in the snow and I'm waiting for live stream from church. I guess it'll be a "Call for the Midwife" afternoon.
Blessings from Ringle, Wisconsin.

Hello dear friend, I absolutely love your philosophy...a tub a day keeps hoarding away! I love to clean and organize and getting rid of things I don't need or use is part of this. It's such a great feeling!
ReplyDeleteYou are doing a fantastic job!
The bumper sticker made me laugh!
Your photos are lovely, thank you so much for sharing.
I should print tshirts. Yes, it's a great feeling
DeleteHoly snow storm!! it is hard to part with things that remind us of our past. We watch call of the midwife such a good show.
ReplyDeleteCathy
Yes, part of parting is mostly that. Oh, I just found it on Netflix. I'm loving it so far.

Yes, more tonight and tomorrow. I just started it. I've cried so many times already. So good!
DeleteI wish I could be as dedicated as you at forcing yourself to sort and purge. I, too, have decades of paid bills, etc. I say it’s the attorney in me…never know when some paperwork might be needed. But then, on the rare occasion I say that’s silly, I decided I don’t know what to do with it. I don’t have a burning barrel…I’m not comfortable putting in the recycling without removing identifying info (and that would take forever) and shredding would require getting a shredder and removing a lot of staples and paper clips. (Always an excuse, ya know?) I didn’t realize Anna had cancer as a child. I can only imagine how difficult that would be to revisit - although at least it turned out well? Yes…this storm - snow and wind - has been CRAZY!!!!! To wake up and realize we’d already gotten the top end of the estimated snowfall (2 ft) and had all day, night and tomorrow to add to it is frightening. I’m not sure when I will manage to get out. My son usually plows for me but he is in Aniwa and that’s a 40-minute drive (when roads are good) and there has not been a single vehicle go by here…not even a plow…so I don’t know how’d he manage even if he tried.
ReplyDeleteI worked for attorneys so I had some of the same fear. Al said, "no one is going to ask what you paid for something in 2008!" I did keep business files for longer. Anyway, my daughter lives in Aniwa. She has her equine business there too. Wholehearted Herd Counseling. One is on CTH Y and other on Bear Lake Rd. The wind....the drifting...just around the corner the road was impassable until last night at 10:00 pm. It's a dead end and the families down there had 4 vehicles stuck trying to get out of in. The one mama, was stuck at the hospital for 3 days she just wanted to get home. CRAZY for sure! Our road was only plowed 1 time. This makes 3 days without school too as Friday was snow day too. I think, I hope that this is it! One never knows with Wisconsin. I say a funny one on fb "you know it's bad when bars in Wisconsin are closed."
DeleteGreat strategy on the bins. It feels so good to let go of what we don't need, or what is not serving us well.
ReplyDeleteNow, THAT'S a snowstorm! Stay safe.
I agree! The storm was unbelievable! Finally this morning sun out...
DeleteYour weather sounds very challenging.
ReplyDeleteWe have 'spare rooms' full of all sorts of things. It will all have to go - my children are accumulating their own junk!
I am a reseller, help with estate sales, so my children know that they will inherit "junk." They told me, "Mom, were are tossing that when you die" types of jokes over the years. So now, I make sure to say, "you see that butter churn over there, don't toss that, it's work over $250.00" I'll have to leave notes...ahaha.
DeleteThe Northern part of our state had 35 inches of snow. EGAD. So glad we just had flurries. Hope the snow has stopped for you and you do not lose power. I had a similar quilt that Bob accidently sold on me one time. He forgot it was a display one only...and he sold it CHEAP. I was livid at the time, but have gotten over it. Good luck purging your room. Purging my mom's house is horrible. My brother and I spent 2 hours going through stuff on, around and underneath just my mom's love seat today. Another 2 hours going through her closet. Its not fun. Janice
ReplyDeleteWe didn't lose power here, others did. I must have sold it too. Probably cheap as I tend to do that from time to time. I'm glad your brother is helping. It's a tough job, but keep at it, no matter what you sister says. Too bad she's not sharing in the work - but, you don't want to deal with that either! You are a good daughter.
DeleteWell done on starting to tackle the room and the bins. I find it a real struggle to let go of things. It's the memories, some good, some bad, some just hard to face. Sigh. Each little step is a step closer to getting it all sorted - that's what I'm starting to think. I may not get rid of tons at once, but as long as I keep plugging away it will be less for the children to sort through!
ReplyDeleteI agree, baby steps are steps too. I've already been asked, "Mom, you're not going to leave that big mess for us are you?" I have to do it. Only, Sharon, I have pole buildings too....inventory, displays, trailers....ughhh
DeleteI hope you didn't lose power. It seems like this winter will never end, doesn't it? Well, at least you have an excellent project to work on. You'll find things you thought you could never do without are less important now -- but I bet you'll still end up with the lot!
ReplyDeleteOh you speak words of wisdom! I have found both.
