Farmhouse Friday - ConJUNKtion FUNKtion

Another Friday and the last of my month of sales in June.  I'm working on my July ideas...you know I have them.

Tomorrow, I'm hosting a ConJUNKtion FUNKtion here at our farm.  Back in January when I thought of this, there was no Covid 19 rules.  So, I have had to scale back considerably, but it is what it is.

I invited a few friends to join me.  It is supposed to storm up a storm today, but tomorrow be nice!  So, yay to that!  Our daughter, Anna, will be coming up to do the food.  Her and Jon are on their way with their hobby farm dreams.  The farm they bought had a commercial kitchen in a "summer kitchen" setting building.  Stainless steel, ovens, stoves, proofing oven, sinks...it's amazing.  She had plans and God really delivered!   Her business name is "Stone Silo Bakery" (and more...to come...).   Both our daughters have an entrepreneurial spirit. (wink, wink).  Justine began her journey too with Wholehearted Herd Counseling, LLC - https://www.facebook.com/Wholehearted-Herd-Counseling-LLC-102979501415415/  We couldn't be more proud of both!

O.k. on with what is going on tomorrow.  First, I'm still digging.  I can either keep digging or stop and mark stuff, I can't do both.  So, I decided to keep digging.  My items will be a "bundle'm up for one price" kinda thing.  Here are a few pictures.

Something tells me I should know that lady in the picture, I had it in a box with other "keeping" things at one time, because when I opened that box I remembered the stuff in it...just not her.  So, I hope she makes a connection with someone.  If she doesn't sell, she may be the next character in my story themed sales.  We will see...

Anna's, Stone Silo Bakery, menu:

So, today, on this Farmhouse Friday, I will be cleaning a path in the upstairs bedrooms, (ya, I never finished that during quaraintine...help, me Lord) so Anna can find a bed to sleep in.   Outside, I will be cleaning up around the chicken coop, outhouse, I have a feeling people will look in them and use the one...lol.  I will keep digging in between the rain.

If you decide to come tomorrow, there will be some parking in the yard, but mostly on the road, especially if it gets really wet today.  Ringle is known for it's clay soil..our claim to fame...Ringle Bricks.  We had a brick yard here 100 years ago.

Here's to a productive day and as always....

Farm House Friday - Week 3 VIRTUAL Sale

What was going on at the farm house?  Well, I'm still working on the story of Evelyn & William and the VIRTUAL pop up sales.  This is the final one for June.  It has been rewarding and fun.

This week I had some chicks hatch and mama hens fighting over them.  In the evening one will be with them and in the morning another.  Today, however, they both did gang up on me and jump in my face, geez, I was only trying to help them...lol

Weeding and replanting (chickens!) in my garden.  The chickens have been so destructive this year.  I hardly have a potted plant left.  They dug and tore up almost everything.  I do not know the fascination with this one planter I have, but they line up to hop in and scratch around like a ride at the amusement park.  Unreal!!  This was supposed to be my "garden" year...nope.

So, this week the virtual sale will be "Farmer's Wife."  Here is the sneak peek of the vignettes.

I will only be listing under the event.  If you want to follow along here is the link:

Evelyn's Family Comes to Wisconsin

NOTE:  This is a fictional story I created to be the premiss of our 3 VIRTUAL sales.  Week 1 was "I Do," week 2 was "Barn Yard" and this is our final week "Farmer's Wife."  We follow along in Evelyn's journey from June bride to farmer's wife.  The VIRTUAL event will be, Saturday, June 20.  We will post photos of what is for sale that morning.  These blog posts will give clues as to what you may expect in each vignette.

If you are new to the story, go back in the previous blog posts to find out about Evelyn & Williams's story.

Evelyn could see the cloud of dust from the dry road, she knew it was them.  She let the old screen door slam as she ran down the driveway to meet her family.  Horns were honking, dogs barking, Williams family coming from all directions of the farm and barn yard.  "Evelyn!" she could hear her mama's voice above all the noise.  The car hardly came to a stop when Evelyn's mom flung the door open and ran to hug her.  "I've missed you!" both were crying happy tears.  "Oh, where are my manners?"  Evelyn said as she began to give all the introductions.

Frank reached his hand to William, to which William grabbed and pulled Frank to his chest.  As the two embraced, the years of war time and brotherhood bond was unmistakeable in that moment.  Dorothy, wiped her tears with the corner of her apron as she turned to Frank, "well, here is the man that saved my son!"  She grabbed him, as she kissed the side of his face, she whispered in his ear "thank you!"  "Well, you all must be hungry" Dorothy said.  "Come on Evelyn, we have some mouths to feed."

It wasnt long after the meal, that Evelyn saw Fran and Mary walking up the drive.  "Oh, I'm so happy you came.  You're just in time for some rhubarb crunch."  As Evelyn made the introductions to family, she made sure to tell of Fred's sacrfice for his country.  As Fran listened, tears filled her eyes.  As Frank reached to shake Fran's hand, he gave her his hankerchief.  "your husband sounds like a real hero" Frank said.  Fran looked into his eyes, "thank you for saying so."  "Who is this little cutie?"  Frank asked while pulling a nickle from behind Mary's ear.   "Well, look at that" Frank said as he handed it to Mary.  "Mommy, I had a nickle behind my ear!"  They all laughed.  It was a wonderful evening of family and friends.  Evelyn's match making plans couldn't be going any better.  She winked at William several times during the evening, to which he just shook his head in response.

Evelyn's mom brought her a little piece of the eastern shore to Wisconsin.   "Well, I thought maybe you were missing the ocean" her mother said.  "Oh, I have!  The smells and sounds,  it's just so different here.  I have new things to smell and hear...some not as pleasant as the seashore" Evelyn laughed as she said it.  "Well honey, I'm so proud of the life you created for yourself.  Who would have ever thought, 'Evelyn a Farmer's Wife', surly not I" her mother said.  "Not to mention, you're a cheese maker!  I couldn't have prayed for a better life for you.  God is good!"  "Yes, mama, he surely is!"

Follow along tomorrow as we will be selling vignettes of items I have pictured in these posts in addition to more in the EVENT:

Thank you for following along in the story.  I've really enjoyed writing these little posts.  Fiction is so much better than our current reality.  Evelyn is right, God is Good, even when we can't wrap our minds around what is going on - He is still in control.

Farmer's Wife - Rhubarb Crunch

NOTE:  This is a fictional story I created to be the premiss of our 3 VIRTUAL sales.  Week 1 was "I Do," week 2 was "Barn Yard" and this is our final week "Farmer's Wife."  We follow along in Evelyn's journey from June bride to farmer's wife.  The VIRTUAL event will be, Saturday, June 20.  We will post photos of what is for sale that morning.  These blog posts will give clues as to what you may expect in each vignette.

If you are new to the story, go back in the previous blog posts to find out about Evelyn & Williams's story.

"Would you like some rhubarb?"  Fran asked.  Fran and her daughter, Mary, attended the same church in Ringle with Evelyn and Williams' famly.  Her husband, a friend of William's, had been killed in action during the war.  She was a very pretty, petite widow, not much older than Evelyn.  "I'd love some.  Do you have a good recipe?"  Evleyn asked.  "Yes, I do, come stop by on your way home and I'll share some with you."  Evelyn and Fran walked back to her little house.  In the back was a nice patch of rhubarb.  "I get so much, I can't use it all."  The two women had become quick friends this past year.  Evelyn often would walk to Fran's house for a cup of tea or coffee.

"My family will be here Friday evening.  Oh, Fran, I've missed them so much!"  Fran wrote down the recipe for Evelyn.  "This sounds so good, thank you!"  As the two hugged, the rhubarb leaves brushed between them.  Mary grabbed her mama's leg and said "I want a hug too!"  As Evelyn pushed a leaf away from Fran's face, she happen to take a good look at her.  She was so striking, long black hair with green eyes.  Mary had the same beautiful locks, but with blue eyes.  Evelyn often wondered about her husband, but knew it too painful of a subject to talk about.  "Oh, please come over on Saturday to meet my family and of course have a piece ruhbarb crunch" Evelyn said.  As she walked toward home, she looked back, Fran and Mary were waving, she waved and blew a kiss.  "I wonder...she thought...."

As she walked back to the farm, Evelyn wasn't thinking about the cooking and cleaning or any of the preparations, she was thinking about Frank, her brother.  He had more of a difficult return from the war than William.  William had me and a farm to come back to.  Maryland had abundant fishing, ship building and construction jobs, but Frank couldn't find the right fit. Evelyn was afraid that losing William and her, may have been too much for Frank.  He hardly wrote anymore and when he did she could read his sadness between the lines.

"What do you think of Fran?"  Evelyn asked William.  "Francesca?" Think of her in what way"  William asked.  "Francesca?  I thought her name was Fran."  Evelyn asked.  "Well, you see, Francesca's family is from Italy.  They moved here from Chicago when she was about 14.  Big city life wasn't for them, they longed for a little piece of the country."  William explained.  "I still remember the first day she came to school.  Fred told the rest of us boys, 'don't even think about it,' he had his eyes on her.  It seemed love at first sight for both.  Fred started calling her Fran and it stuck."  William added.

"Well, what do you think of her?"  Evelyn asked.  "She is a good friend to you, mama to Mary and I've had her apple pie at church, she is a good cook."  "No, silly, I mean do you find her attractive?"  William was careful in what he said.  Everyone found Fran attractive.   "Do you think..." Evelyn started.  William, saw it in her eyes, what she was  thinking, "now don't go play miss match maker" he said.  "But, you see it right?  Frank and Fran?  That evens sounds cute and Mary could have a ...." before Evelyn could finish the word, William said, "you know, you may be right and that sure would be nice."  They had such a wonderful life here on the farm, they only wanted the best for Frank as well.  "Well, let's not be too pushy...Evelyn..." William already knew it was too late.  Once she had an idea on something, there was no stopping her.

Evelyn's News From Home

NOTE:  This is a fictional story I created to be the premis of our 3 VIRTUAL sales.

Evelyn had settled in nicely to her new Wisconsin farm life as William's farmer's wife.  The letters she sent to her family were filled with colorful stories of "feeding" calves, hired hands, William and the bacteria that it takes to make her cheese.  Their first year of marriage was filled with lessons of farm, animals and life.  She had become very happy being called the "Farmer's Wife."

As the truck pulled up to the mailbox, Evelyn was waiting, "any news from Maryland?" she asked the driver.  "Yep, there is one right here" he said as he handed her the letter.  As Evelyn opened it, she could hardly believe the news, "William!" she yelled as she ran toward the barn.   "What is wrong?" he asked as he came running out the door.  "Nothing is wrong, everything is right!" her voice was shaking.  "Mom, dad and Frank are coming for a visit!  Oh, William, can you believe this wonderful news!"

Evelyn could hardly contain her excitement.  "I have so much to do.  I will need to clean this cabin from top to bottom.  Sheets to wash, beds to make, not to mention the pies, cookies and cakes to bake."  Evelyn chattered on for days about the the planning and preparation for the family's visit.

Evelyn had only a few weeks to get everthing ready.  After chores, the rest of her days were spent working diligently to cross off each task from her list.  "Make new curtains for bedroom window.  I can cross that one off."  She talked to herself and the heifer's as she worked.  "Girls, what do you think?"  She would ask and then laugh when one would give here an approving "mooo."  "I think so too!" she said as she put the bucket away and skipped back to the cabin to work.

Follow along this week as Evenly prepares for her family's visit from Maryland to Wisconsin.  She is so excited to share her new life as a "Farmer's Wife."  The vignettes will be shared under the event.  This will be virtual where you may purchase the items.  "It's a Farm Life - VIRTUAL Vintage Pop Up Sale" link here:

Farm House Friday - Greenhouse, Roosters, Pop Up Sale

Al was on vacation this week and he started my greenhouse.  I'm so excited.  It's taking a bit longer as he had to make the trusses - they didn't have right sizes.  We have been busy working together this week on the farm.  My garden, cleaning in my buildings and helping him.

I woke this morning to catching 8 roosters for my friend Kou.  He has, over the past several years, bought about 100 chickens from me.  These, however, were FREE.  The little tiny rooster that I wanted to get rid of the most, slipped out of the door.  He lives another day.  Kou messaged me and said "Thanks Jacky, we butchered them all."

Then, Lisa came over and we created our vignettes for this week's sale:  "Its a Farm Life - VIRTUAL Vintage Pop Up Event - Barn Yard"  Here is a sneak peek at what we will have to offer.  I plan to go live or something...not sure yet...tomorrow duing the day.  Selling live I guess?  Not sure yet.

So, if any of this interests you, go over to the event:

It's a Farm Life - Making a Living

NOTE:  This is a fictional story I created to be the premis of our 3 VIRTUAL sales.  Last week was "I Do" and this weeks is "Barn Yard" - the sale is Saturday, June 13.  We will post photos of what is for sale that morning.  These blog posts will give clues as to what you may expect in each vignette.

If you are new to the story, go back in the previous blog posts to find out about Evelyn & Williams's story.

Evelyn loved the little cabin.  She enjoyed walking around the barn yard and woods to find pretty little flowers to brighten up her home.   She helped Dorothy in the garden, weeding, picking, perserving the summer days away.

After lunch, she often would explore the acerage.  She could hear the cow bell off in the distance as the big ol gals would lazily graze on the sweet clover.  It was a wonder to her how those cows could produce so much milk.  William would bring home a pail of sweet cream that Evelyn would whip it into butter.  Oh, she had no idea, how much she would enjoy her farm life.  Evelyn took on the chore of taking care of the calves and heifers.  "So, a heifer is a 'girl cow' that hasn't had a baby?  Is that right?"  Evelyn was full of questions.  "Well, I guess you could say that..."  William would laugh.  Evelyn had a whole new vocabulary of terms that were true for all kinds of species.

She had a daily routine and she worked hard at it.  With an abundance of fresh eggs, milk, cream, butter, she could bake William something sweet every day.  She really wanted to do more to contribute to their income.  "What could I do?" she thought.  "Do you suppose I could try my hand at making some cheese?"  Evelyn asked.  "Well, you surely could try" William said.  "Our cows give us plenty and their fat content is perfect for cheese making."  Evelyn studied the process and even visted the little cheese factory in the Town of Easton.  The cheese maker was more than happy to share some of his knowledge with Evelyn.  "Now, don't you go and make better cheese than me.  You'll put me out of business" he chuckled.

Evelyn tried several batches, some of which ended up going to the hogs.  However, she didn't quit, she wanted "this" for herself.   William would often see her slipping in the barn, bucket in hand, dipping into the milk cans sitting in the cold water of the cement cistern.  He hoped for her success and even ate his fair share of bad samples.

"Well, what about this one?"  Evelyn asked.  William took a bite.  As he chewed his face grew into a huge smile "this one is it!"  "Eveyln, this is really good!"  Evelyn's cheese was a white block of creamy but sharp cheese.  "Hey, dad come over here and taste Evelyn's cheese."  Evelyn was so excited as the family tasted the slivers of her hand made cheese.  They all agreed it was a perfect representation of their product.  "Oh, I'm so proud of you,"  William said.

Evelyn's cheese was soon known all around the area.  It was hard to keep up with the demand.   "Farmer's Wife Cheese" she called it.  She had created a little bit of the farm life for herself and she loved it!

It's a Farm Life - Haying Time

NOTE:  This is a fictional story I created to be the premis of our 3 VIRTUAL sales.  Last week was "I Do" and this weeks is "Barn Yard" - the sale is Saturday, June 13.  We will post photos of what is for sale that morning.  These blog posts will give clues as to what you may expect in each vignette.

If you are new to the story, go back in the previous blog posts to find out about Evelyn & Williams's story.

"Make hay while the sun shines" Willaim said "and it's going to be a hot one today."  Eveyln watched as the men hooked up the wagon to the tractor and headed out to the field.  Evelyn thought about the heat and labor involved this day to feed the herd over the winter.  She set her tea pot to boil and started making a refreshing jug of iced tea.  While that was brewing, Evelyn and Dorothy started making a big lunch for the men.  "Our men and 3 hired hands all hungry, we have our work cut out for us today.  We better get cookin'"  Dorothy said.

Evelyn enjoyed Dorothy's company.  Dorothy was a talker, she shared all kinds of helpful tid bits with Evelyn while they worked.   As they peeled and put potatoes on to boil, Dorothy told Evelyn her plans for the meal.  "Let's whip up a batch of oatmeal cookies first.  You can take them out to the field with the iced tea for a nice little snack."  "Let see, potato salad, garden salad, fried chicken, biscuits and gravy," Dorothy was making her list.  "Oh, and we can't forget about strawberry short cake."  The two women worked together like a well oiled machine.  "Evelyn, I don't know what I did without you.  Since grandma's passing, it's been just me.  I'm so happy to have you here.  William is a lucky man."  Evelyn turned and wiped a tear as she thought of her own mother and time spent with her in the kitchen.  "O.k. honey, take those warm cookies and iced tea out to the field."  Evelyn packed the picnic basket and started out to the field.  "And, on your way back, stop and pick the strawberries..." Dorothy called as the old screendoor slammed shut.

Evelyn & William in Wisconsin

NOTE:  This is a fictional story I created to be the premis of our 3 VIRTUAL sales.  Last week was "I Do" and this weeks is "Barn Yard" - the sale is Saturday, June 13.  We will post photos of what is for sale that morning.  These blog posts will give clues as to what you may expect in each vignette.

Evelyn and Willam waved good bye to her family as they pulled out of the drive.  The old pick up truck loaded down and covered with a tarp.  "We will get a real bird's eye view of the country" William said.  He was trying his best to make this long trip to Wisconsin, sound like a lovely honeymoon.    Evelyn didn't mind, she loved listening to William's stories as he drove.  "Oh, they are going to love you!"  William assured her.  "My family has been cleaning and fixing up my grandparent's little homesteading cabin for us."  Evelyn wasn't sure about living in a cabin, but the thoughts of having her own house to "keep" made her heart sing.  She was as excited as she was nervous.

It was a beautiful sunny June day when they pulled into the drive.  William's family came running from all parts of the farm, barn and home.  They haven't seen him since the war ended.  His mother, running to meet the truck, she jumped on the side rail and grabbed Williams neck..."son, welcome home!"  As she kissed his face over and over.  "Oh, Evelyn dear, let me get a look at you!  Well, you're just about the cutest ..."  "Mom!" William said "Let her at least get out of the truck!"  "Well, it'll be nice to have another woman around here!"  The moment she entered the barn yard, she felt welcomed and loved.

As they entered the little cabin, Evelyn looked around.  "Do you like it?"  Willaim asked "It's only temporary, I'm going to build you a proper house just across that hay field."  "Oh, William, like it?  I love it!"  After a few days of settling in and setting up the house, Evelyn dove right in to farm living.

Dorothy, was William's mom, her mother-in-law, "Evelyn, honey, come help me do my chores" Dorothy said.  "Now, don't be afraid, just reach right in there and grab those eggs."  Evelyn, not wanting to show any hesitancy, did just what she was told.  As she quickly reached into the box and under the hen, the broody old gal, jumped right in her face.  In the midst of flapping, clucking and feathers, Evelyn grabbed the hen by the leg.  "Well, I do believe we have our 'new' chicken catcher!" Dorothy said.    The two women laughted as Evelyn put the hen down.  Evelyn wasn't sure what that 'new' role was, but she was up to whatever chore was required in this new farm life.

Motivational Monday - MIA

I haven't been inspired to write an actual Motivational Monday post for several weeks.  Not that what I say can "motivate," only you can do that for yourself.  I could point out many unfinished things in my life to show you why "Motivational Speaker" should NOT be in my resume'.

In my mind, I guess I write these posts to give myself a little "pep talk" and "food for thought."  As a blogger, I would hope, if a reader came upon one of my posts, it would leave them with the same.

So with that said, I'm going to say something that may explain the why behind my "Motivational Monday - MIA."  The world is all too sad right now!

In search of finding a way to show support to my family of color, I "dug" deeper into the roots of the "Black Lives Matter" movement.  I understand that police brutality against people of color, is what motivated this movement.  The truth of the matter is, being a person of color in America isn't like being a white person.  Without getting into my conspiracy therories, this is a card right out of the old elitists playbook!  It is dividing us!  Keep in mind, good things often start out good and can be corrupted and fueled with hate.   That I don't stand for!

I am a Christian.  My biblical world view has been shaken to it's core over the past several weeks.  I try to look at things in light of scripture because that is the only truth that will stand.  I believe that my savior, Jesus, died for all lives and the saying "All Lives Matter" is true.  While I believe that, I understand the reason why "Black Lives Matter" is valid.

I hope this leave you with "food for thought."

Something Old, Something New - Evelyn's Wedding dress

NOTE:  This is a fictional story I created to be the premis of our 3 VIRTUAL sales.  The first sale is "I Do" - this week the blog posts will give clues as to what you may expect in each vignette.

Something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue.  Where did that saying come from?    The traditional wedding rhyme goes:  Someting old, something new, something borrowed, something blue and a sixpense in your shoe.  The mantra started as a Victorian-era rhyme that come out of the English country Lancashire.  The something old stands for continuity, something new for optimism, something borrowed for happiness and something blue represents purity, love and fidelity.

Over the years, Evelyn perused through that old bride magazine, until the pages were tattered.  She knew every little detail and secret printed between the covers.  Oh the hours she spent pining over her dream wedding.  "Well, my dress is going to have lace all in the front with tiny buttons down my back, " says Esther, Evelyn's best friend.  "Well, my dress is going to be all lace with tulling on the skirt" says Evelyn "and I will have a long lace veil."

The two young girls, under the old quilt, reading by flashlight,  squealed with delight looking at the pictures and planning their wedding days.  "My husband will be a doctor, we will live in a big house with so many rooms I will need hire a maid."  Esther giggled.  "Well, my husand will be..." Evelyn thought for a moment, "I don't know what he will be, but he WILL be ALL mine."  Oh how they laughed, long into the night.

"Evelyn, you have a package .... Julette Originals Dress Company" mother calls up the stairs to her.  "Yippie," Evelyn yells as she slides down the banister.  "Evelyn dear" her mother scolds "you must be more careful, you do want to walk down the isle, don't you?!"  "Oh, mama, don't worry, I feel like I could fly."

As Evelyn grabbed the package she twirlled around, jumping up and down all while Skipper, their old dog, was barking.  "Let's go open it and try it on."  Evelyn raced up the steps, mother followed right behind as did old Skipper.  He figured something must be very tasty for Evelyn to be so excited.  He was sorely disppointed when mother shewed him out the bedroom door.

"A Paula Dean Original!  Mama, just like the one in the magainze!"  Evelyn admired the tiny pearls and sprarkly bottice.  The lace was just as she had always dreamed.  "You have your something new, this dress."  Mama says.  "I have my something old, grandma's pearls," Evelyn says.  Just then, the door creaks open and in walks Frank with Esther close behind.  "I saw the delivery truck, I knew it was your dress.  Oh Evelyn it is beautiful!"  Esther says.  "We have something old, something new..." just as Evelyn was about to say... Esther chimes in, "I have your blue" as she hands Evelyn a blue hankie.  It seemed oddly familiar to Evelyn as she looked at it.  Then she remembered, it was her old hankie, the one she gave Esther the day the navy officer came with news of her brother's passing.  "You borrowed that to me and I have cried many tears into it" says Esther.  "I give it back to you on one condition, you only cry happy tears."  The two best friends hug each other tightly.  "Wait a minute..." Frank says as leaves the room.  He walked across the hall to his room.  "What is he doing?" Esther asks  "I don't know" says Evelyn.

Frank comes back into the room holding the tiniest litte clam shell purse.  His mind must have traveld to the weeked leave from war to the beautiful island in the Pacific.  "I bought it for my future bride" Frank says.  "I will borrow it to you for your special day."  "Oh, Frank, it's adorable!"  Evelyn says.  "Well, that's that!" mama says.  "Old, new, borrowed, blue and I do believe I now need my hankie."
