Regenerative Antquities

Regenerative Antiquities?  What's that?

Well, it's a term to describe a concept that came to me while on a picking adventure last week.    Now, I am not faulting these ladies for not knowing what some of the items from this pick were, rather I'm thanking them for helping me come up with this idea.

I was originally asked to come to this farmstead by my daughter's childhood friend.  She and her husband were going to live on this homestead for a trial period to see how and if it would fit in their lifestyle.  As they were cleaning out some of the buildings, she happen to think of me and my business and thought "why toss it, when Jacky could use it."  Thanks Abigail!

So, flash forward a few months and now her mother-in-law called and asked if I wanted to come and see what other "treasures" they dug up.  Of course I would!

You may remember, I have had some weakness and nerve damage in my leg due to a dog bite a few years back.  That injury caused another and so here we are now...I'm gimpy.  I tell you that to explain how this "pick" went.

"Diane, you crawl up that ladder (which was straight up) and jump up there and hold stuff up to me and I'll tell you if I want it."  "I'll stand on the ladder....teehee"  In the process of this, her sister-in-law called and she was on her way out to the farm too.  I said "great, now I can hand her some stuff, it'll be like an assembly line."  I often work this way....

With all of that, we began the process.  "What is this?"..... and I would say...."well, you have it upside down, flip it around and now put it on the floor....do you see it now?  It's a corn sheller."  This process of "what is this?" went on for over an hour.  It ended with a pile of old, farm tools and pieces on the ground under the ladder.  Some of which, once explained what they were, were added to family heirlooms and pieces they now could treasure knowing it's purpose.

That is one of the many awesome parts to my job.  I don't know everything, but I do know a little bit about a lot of things.  When I can help a family member make a connection with an item they thought was "trash" - let the angels sing....

Actually, I do this everyday, explain what items are, their purpose, how to use them today....it's what I have done for 30 or more years and will continue to do.

So, let's do some Regenerative Antiquities Q&A.  I will try to do blog posts about items for educational purposes.  Please feel free to send me pictures of items that you would like to know more about.  You can link to my business facebook page:  Town Hall Trinkets, LLC - Regenerative Antiquities group here:

I am hoping that with creating a group and opening up a dialogue, younger people will be interested in old stuff and not just scrap, toss or burn it.   Once it's purpose has been explained, ideas for how to decorate with it shared, it will "REGENERATE an interest in ANTIQUES!"   If we don't I'm afraid, some of this will be lost forever.

Here is a picture of my van load after that pick.

So, go on over in the link, LIKE my page and ask to join in the group.  It will be fun!

Blessings from Ringle, Wisconsin.

  1. Great finds and I loved how you had others bring the "stuff" "goodies" down to you. I don't have a Facebook page, but I am sure you will have fun with the items. Maybe you can even put a coup;e out here and see if your bloggers know what it is. TE HE Janice
