We had a successful "pop up" sale at my friend's new business venture: Ewe & Herb, LLC She had bags of fresh cut herbs for only $2.50 a bag. I knew I was going to make a Margarita Pizza when I bought the basil.

While cleaning out my estate inventory, I found this vintage ice cream maker.
Justine and I experimented with it today. We looked at pinterest and came up with a good base and decided to make up our own variety. We dug through the pantry and Justine came up with the idea of making an Almond Joy Ice Cream. It was really easy. This is the recipe. 1 3/4 C heavy cream 1 1/4 C whole milk 1/4 C sugar 1 T almond extract Justine toasted some slivered almonds. Next time we will toast the coconut too. Then we added; 1/3 C coconut 1/3 C chocolate chips 1/3 C almonds Put all of this in the ice cream maker. We put the ice and salt in the outside of the container and turned it on. It only took about 20 minutes and we had the most delicious ice cream.
We also made a healthy version of frozen strawberry yogurt. This was even easier, we put in 4 C of non fat vanilla greek yogurt (1 large container) and about 2 C sliced strawberries. It also took about 20 minutes in the maker.
I had some sour milk to use, so I made some cookies. It was the 4th of July and on goes the red, white and blue sprinkles. You could always frost and decorate too. These cookies are soft, more biscuit like - they actually remind me of vanilla wafer cookies. Sour Milk Cookies: 1 C white sugar 1 C brown sugar 1 C shortening Cream together, add; 3 well beaten eggs 1 t vanilla blend together, add; 4 C flour 2 t baking powder 1 t baking soda blend together, add; 1 C sour milk Mix well and chill for an hour or more. Roll about 1/4" thick, cut out in desired shapes, bake at 350 until lightly browned.
I couldn't stand to throw away some milk that turned sour - with just the 2 of us now, this has happened a few times. Women have been baking with sour milk forever - I just haven't. I looked through some recipes, but couldn't find something I wanted to make. So, I decided to make one up.
Sour Milk Coffee Cake: 1 C shortening zest and juice of 1 lemon 3/4 C white sugar 3/4 C brown sugar Cream together, add 2 eggs 1 t vanilla 1/2 t salt 1 t baking powder 4 C flour blend together, add 1 C sour milk Mix well. This will be enough for 2 round coffee cake pans or 1 rectangle pan. The dough will be thick, but spoon into a prepared pan. Top with fruit of your choice. I did blackberries and raspberries - you could use really anything you like, apple slices, cherries, chocolate chips - be creative. Then top with the following crumble: 1/2 C flour 1/2 C butter 1/2 C brown sugar 1 T cinnamon Bake at 325-350 until done. Once cooled drizzle with powder sugar glaze.
