The birds and I planted lots of sunflowers this past year. I dried some of the heads and saved them for the winter birds. I also put out that bag with my burlap scraps from a project I made. The birds were too fast when I came outside - but, trust me, they love the feeder - and so do the deer. One night last week....10 under this feeder. Not a one during deer hunting...isn't that how it goes.

What a reminder to me to start saving fluff from the dryer... and we did NOT put our sunflower heads to good use this past year... I hereby vow to do better in 2013!

ReplyDeleteSince I am a newby at this birdfeeder thing (I lived in a bear zone back in St. Croix Falls Wi - they would rip the shreds out of birdfeeders when they'd come through - so never had one!)I am learning so much from you and your readers on how to make birds happy!
ReplyDeleteAfter the fire, the only birds i saw for a long time were magpies...Now the chickadees have shown up from somewhere (with a 45 mph burning wind, we know we lost a lot of birds - esp. with over 455,000 acres burned)and im feeding them - such fun! Now I need to save my dryer lint too...But...uhmmm...why? Is that for nesting material in the spring? and do you just toss it around or do you make a lint station?
What a clever idea, saves time taking the seeds out. I'll have to remember this for next winter.
