The door on the chicken coop, no longer closed all the way. This picture shows how uneven the coop has become. Here is why.
The tree growing next to the coop is pushing it up/over. This tree is huge! Anyway, the door is level the building not so much.
We plan to just keep using this old coop. It's been a chicken coop forever and I can't stand to tear it down.
When the girls were little, they, we could walk between the tree and coop. Look at the roots. I wonder how old it is.
I'm not sure if you can see the damage to this old tree. In 1996 we had a tornado that jumped our barn and took out a different storage shed. This old tree lost about a third of it's branches with one big split. We thought for sure it would die, but here it is 30 years later.
In the pictures, it's hard to see, but the branches are growing into each other. I never noticed it until now. This brings new meaning to "and the two shall become one."
This little girl is me at 4. I was a flower girl for my brother's wedding. This came up on a memory on social media. I've been thinking about this little girl and wondering, if I could go back in time and tell her something, what would it be? I know, maybe tell her NOT to give "voice" to every thought she has in her head. I've said some stupid things, in gist, joking or to get a laugh. I hold a few of them with me in deep regret. However, all the things, the good, bad and ugly, I'd do it all the same again. All of it made me who I am today. I can live with that and the woman this little girl grew up to be.
Blessings from Ringle, Wisconsin.

What a sweet flower girl you were. Don't we all wish we could give advice to our younger selves?
ReplyDeleteThank you. I was sweet when I wanted to be...ahaha
DeleteI am so glad you are not tearing it down.
ReplyDeleteThat old tree is amazing.
Cathy
It is an amazing tree we have 2 others not quite as big, but almost.
DeleteThis is such a lovely post! I enjoyed seeing your beautiful photos as well. The photo of you as a little girl...absolutely adorable! I live in a big city, Montreal. I don't get to see chickens, so I also enjoyed seeing your photos of the chickens.
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda. I was the last of 6 kids. Oh I love watching my chickens. They are so entertaining.
DeleteWhat an adorable little "you" you were! Funny...it seems like your hair is much lighter in that photo than the dark hair I know you have. Little "me" was the opposite...I had dark, dark, hair that got progressively lighter. I can certainly relate to the regrets of "voicing" everything in my head and saying things jokingly/just to get a laugh and regretting the words immediately or later. (And, oddly, my "filters" seem to have gotten looser the older I get...one would think it would be the opposite (i.e., I would have learned something with age....) Anyway...we can all "live with" the woman you grew up to be - and gladly so. <3. That tree is AMAZING!!! Wow. I can only imagine what it would be like had it not lost some of itself with the tornado. I just love old, old, trees.
ReplyDeleteThanks Robin. When I was younger, the more I was outside, especially at the pool, the lighter my hair turned. I have grey now. We have 2 other trees very close in size. I'm always worried that the wind will knock them onto my house or buildings. Their branches and shade keep both the house and chicken coop cool in the Summer. I do love them!
DeleteThat coop has so much character! It must be secure if you've used it all this time. That little girl did her best all along the way. That's all we can do. Blessings...
ReplyDeleteThanks Daisy. Yes, she surely tried! The coop does have character and some characters in the inside (roosters).
DeleteI think a person who has never said or done stupid things probably hasn’t lived. I so regret some of the things I did in my 20’s. We live and learn as the saying goes. I love your old chicken coop. RHill, TX
ReplyDeleteThanks. I love it too! Yes, I've always been guilty of TMI...even before I knew what it was.
