Farmhouse Friday - Week 11 - Happy Spring

Happy 1st day of Spring.

In Wisconsin this past week, it wasn't much like Spring.  We had several days in a row of snow, even a blizzard.  No school for 3 days, grocery stores, gas stations, factories - all closed.  There was a no travel warning.  I think we had 30 inches of snow.  I didn't get out and take pictures.  On my way to aqua therapy, I did snap a few from our car window.  This was on Wednesday a day or so after the 30".

Yes, as we left our house, it was beginning to sleet.  Ughhh

Once in town, I couldn't believe all the snow.  These are the largest snowbanks on the side of the road that I can remember.  Only one other time in my life, it was 1978 I believe, compares as snowbanks were up to the street signs.

When you have that much snow, there is no where for it to go.  The 2 lane road was 1 and half at best on the way to therapy.  On the way home, they had the huge equipment out.  They have an assembly line, huge snow machine (eats up the snow), throws it out the back into a dump truck, plow behind.  When the dump truck is full, they get out of line and another comes in.  These loads of snow are dumped in an empty field, parking lots, etc.  They used to dump on the frozen lakes when I was little.  Later discovered too much pollution (salt, sand, garbage) in the snow ended up in the water.  It was always fun as a kid to go to the big parking lots and look for money when the piles of snow melted.

Today is the first day of Spring...I think March came in like a lamb, had a fight with the lion mid month.  Hope the lion has had it's fun now and leaves.

My husband, did a good deed.....

So many Good Samaritans helping others in need with shoveling and plowing.

I've been keeping up with decluttering.  I finished all those paper boxes.  I had 4 FULL boxes of burnables.  I feel so organized now.  In fact, I roughed in our taxes and even dropped them off at the accountant.  I normally procrastinate this horrid job, not this year.  I am about a month early.  Yes, I was one of those - drop off on April 12 or so, "just file an extension" I'd say.  However, they never had to.

So, on my break from working the other day, I enjoyed a fudge bar.  As I was eating it, I noticed it looked like my state - Wisconsin.  Of course, I had to take a picture of it.

I also had an appointment with my local Neurologist.  He said my right side is still pretty strong.  My left, not so much.  I knew that.  My left femur is the one I broke.  I don't even want to "jinx" it, but I had some goals I set for myself.  I was able in past 2 weeks to accomplish many of them.  I was encouraged in the progress I have made.  I won't ever walk without assistance, I'll walk "peg legged" probably and won't go far.  However, when I came home from the hospital on Halloween, I wasn't sure I'd even be able to do that.  I didn't and don't have unrealistic expectations so that helps.  Just thankful for what I have worked hard to regain.

That's about my week.  How was yours?

Blessings from Ringle, Wisconsin.

  1. Well done on your decluttering. I'm not anywhere close on that one. I'm so pleased to hear you are making progress with your physical goals. That had to be a frightening experience for you -- and well done on what you have already to move forward. (that snow went north of us -- thank goodness!)

    1. Thanks Jeanie. You were lucky to miss it all. I'm glad I got a start on the decluttering. Sometimes, I don't even know where to start.

  2. Spring is a little reluctant this year.

  3. Well done with the decluttering and accomplishing the goals. I'm sorry to hear of your ongoing health struggles. It sounds like you've had a tough time but - as much as you are able - are dealing with things as they are while working hard to make sure you accomplish all you can.
Snow. Ugh. I'm glad we didn't get as much as you! I've seen photos from the UP of Michigan and WOW it's just bad.
Things are starting to warm up for a couple of days and I'm just going to enjoy it and see what comes next lol.
Hope you have a good weekend.

    1. Thanks Sharon. Us the UP was hit hard. I am just trying to keep going. If I stop, or don't try, I will regret it. Today was beautiful. Lots of melting.

  4. We only had about 21 inches at our house - ONLY! At least is it melting fast and looking at the forecast, spring might stay this time. Of course there's always April, and it's anybody's guess how bi-polar the weather will be then. Gotta love living in Wisconsin! Have a great weekend.

    1. Thanks Chris. Yes, plenty of times we had snow in April too. Robins are back so maybe this was it. Have a good weekend.

  5. Glad you got your paperwork purged and organized. That is always a good feeling! I cannot imagine that much snow and all the work that it takes to move it. We had a cold snap earlier this week with a low was 28 with heavy frost. Burned a lot of new growth. Now we’re back in the upper 80’s which is unseasonably warm even for us. Such is March! RHill, TX

    1. Thanks. Oh no, that's not good for the plants. I saw a post someone said it's "unseasonably" everywhere in U.S. Not to mention the wildfires in Oklahoma, Nebraska and your state too.

  6. What a difference a week makes, eh? I had gone in for groceries/necessaries in between the 13" we rec'd and the start of the blizzard so was prepared to be holed up for a while and, well, that's what hermits do best. But I ended up literally stranded in my house until Wednesday. My son came and plowed the driveway the best he could (he only has a single cab truck with a blade on it and the drifts were horrendous). He tried shoveling the walk a bit but couldn't as there was a 5' drift in places and he has a really messed up knee. I had a person I was paying to shovel this winter but he said he couldn't shovel through the drift either. I was, therefore, stranded as my garage is detached and I could not get to it. I put a post on our local township FB page asking for help but no one responded. I looked on the other FB sites that are local to our area and they were full of warnings about scammers (asking for prepayment, not showing up, etc.) I finally got someone out Wednesday. It was expensive, but what's a girl to do?

    1. I saw those posts warning about scammers too. For Pete's sake - I detest those scammers - do it in all kinds of situations. Yes, the drifts were something!!! Glad you got out between to get necessities. Our fb town page was full of "where is the plow!" "have you even started?" type things. The snow was heavy and the winds....I hope spring is really here now.

  7. WOW you sure did get lots of snow. North of us 3 hours got the blizzard too. We escaped it. Glad you finished purging your items. I am still working on my mom's house and now I also started to do my own a few days a week. I dont want my kids having to do what I am doing. I hope your health issues get better. You are an inspiration at all you can accomplish. Janice

    1. It (sorting) is a process! When I was diagnosed last year, I gave myself the "5 year plan" for clean out. I really would like it to go faster. Several friends have offered to help. However, they will want to dig in my inventory and that's not helping. If I could find someone to work and not "pick" I'd like that better. I want to keep some inventory for the 1-2 events I do a year. Thanks for the compliment. I can show those around me that you must keep moving forward.

  8. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I used to live in snow country like that and I will never do it again. LOL That's a lot of snow. I too am de cluttering. Just too much "stuff". Glad you got a good report from the doctor. Yes, setting doable goals it the way to go. Good for you. So nice meeting you and reading your blog.

    1. Thanks. I am so happy to find new bloggers to meet and posts to read. Doable is key I believe no matter your ability.

  9. It's so satisfying to get a handle on clutter. At least it gives us a sense that we have control over something!
That doesn't look anything like spring! Hope winter is almost over for y'all.

  10. my week was good, maybe quiet but i also did a bit of decluttering and organizing. it felt great...i still have "a lot of stuff" but it is all organized!! our snow is all gone, FINALLY!! i love winter, snow and all the seasons, but i am ready for spring. i have had similar experiences with walking. once, i could not walk at alland used a wheelchair for 6 months. i know MS is different, but i was able to regain the use of my legs and right now i am walking. i can't walk far, i use a zinger chair when i need too but short walks are doable!!

    1. That blizzard is melting away. We had a flock of Robins in our yard. The were pecking around under the trees where the grass is gone. I'm getting a Zeen mobility devise. It is on order. I walk good in my aqua therapy I almost feel normal.
