Edgar Steam Engine Show & Flea Market - GREAT Time!

I set up 2 booths at the 38th annual Edgar steam engine show and flea market.  This was my 2nd year.  This event is held on the Umnus farm in rural Edgar, Wisconsin.  The booths are in rows from A-Q, there are street signs marking the rows with names like: Ford, Allis Chalmers, John Deere, Massey Furguson…etc.  My friend and her husband were in the booth next to me.  We were in row Q – the last one – or the first one – depending on where you parked and how you look at things.  I would guess that each row had 50 vendors in them – I’m not sure –but a lot of vendors!

The other top 2 pictures are of Lisa’s booth too.  SEVERAL people came into her booth and told her that her booth was the BEST LOOKING booth at Edgar – I would have to agree, she has a knack for decorating!

This was my neighbor too.  I bought some neat stuff from him.
Now on to my “BEST OF EDGAR SHOW”

I hate to have my picture taken, but this one is of me holding Charlie.  He kept saying “gramma” “gramma” that is what he calls his owner.  He was wanting to go back in the RV.

This lady took my vote for “Most Stylish” with her cute pink shopping cart.

My vote for “Most Creative” was this lady who made bowls out of old records.  They were only $5!

My vote for “Best Deal” were these “man purses”  This vendor sold a lot of them.  The boys in the picture are going to use them for their back packs for school.  I have to admit on Sunday afternoon we did make a deal with him and bought several….my daughter Justine (@ Obsessive Creative Disorder http://justine-obsessivecreativedisorder.blogspot.com/ ) will have a future post on how she “glamed them up”

My vote for “The One That Got Away…”  This leather owl tooled purse.  It was in the booth with the man purses, behind on a $1 table….how did I miss this!!!  Too Cute!!! It was in MINT shape.   Oh well, she liked it too, by daughter Anna offered her $5 – this offer still stands…. Smile

My vote for “Best Drink” went to an Amish booth where they were making fresh squeezed cider.  It was delicious, however, I didn’t take their picture as they don’t like that.
My vote for “Best Food” was the breakfast sandwich at the VFW booth.
“Oldest Friend” and fellow vendor vote is for Phil and his son Chris.  His wife Sharon passed away earlier this year.  She was always so happy and joyful!  She had a nice smile and was eager to share her stories with you.  Phil and I have set up at several fleas this year and WE all miss Sharon!  Phil wears an angel pin on his hat in memory of her…so in spirit…I guess Sharon was there. Smile  Oh ya, Phil and my oldest brother were best buds in school – like maybe 40 years ago….I’m 45 so that tells you how long Phil has known my family….We Love you Phil and know we thinking of Sharon too…..

This poor fellow’s horse got away.  He parked the buggy and put the horse in a stall in the barn and it took off passed my booth, down the road and across the field full of parked cars.  It was kickin up and throwing his head around.  It took 45 min to catch it…from first hand experience with running after horses…I felt bad for him!

Edgar Steam Engine Show & Flea Market–8/26–8/28

I’ve been busy these past several days loading up the trailer with goodies to take to the Edgar Flea Market.  This event is HUGE – did I say HUGE – like over 500 vendors, 100’s of exhibitors with antique tractors and last year over 16,000 in attendance over the 3 days.

With costs considered, it was my best show last year.  So, this year I am renting 2 booths.  One for my vintage, antique junk and one for my daughters’ and husband’s stuff.  When I buy out an estate, I have an abundance of household misc. that I let the girls sell for me (usually $0.50 tables) and I let them sell their clothes, misc. in the remainder of booth.

Pictures of loaded trailer.  I do have more to add today, like galvanized pails, milk cans, other farm stuff.

(these pictures look cloudy – that is humidity – we had storms last night and this morning is really humid!!!!)  You can only see my husband’s junk on the end.  Trust me, I have some goodies in the front!  I will post pictures of my booth and others on Monday.

We will get our booths tonight and leave the truck and trailer there.  Tomorrow will be set up day and the rest of the weekend will be time to not only sell – but buy!!!  Wonderful stuff in Edgar from all vendors!

My friend Lisa will be in the booth next to me.  We always set up together, share booths at antique and craft shows and even share a room at an antique store.  It is nice to have a “junk buddy”.

Blessings from Wisconsin!

Political Interest in Rural Issues

064
I know that I stated in my “mission statement” that I wouldn’t get too political in my blog,  however, I had to share this experience.   We are a 4-H family, who raise animals in a Market Sale program for our county fair.  Sometimes, I feel the “general public” has a “media distorted” view of our nation’s meat production industry.  Granted, I too have seen those horrid images of extreme abuse.  I watched Food Nation.  Yes, there are some changes that can be made to benefit the overall process;  my opinon, quit buying off the $1 menu and cheap cuts of meat from huge discount chain stores!  Buy local!  As an ambassador for the market industry in 4-H, I feel we need to educate the public about local producers and their practices.

This picture is of our daughter along with Pamela Galloway, our local State Representative.  “Pam” is a doctor/surgeon in Wausau, but decided to run for an office.  She is extremely nice, well spoken, educated and a positive role model for young girls and women.  She is a conservative.  She just took office January 2011.

With all the negative political attention that Wisconsin received this past Spring; senators leaving our state, $100,000’s of dollars of damage to our capital in Madison, and the on going polarizing issue of “union busting” it is sure nice to see a WOMAN who stands on her convictions!  I am all for it!

She wrote and issued legislation and was instrumental in finally passing the Wisconsin Conceal to Carry Law!  My husband is so happy!   I don’t carry a gun, nor am I smart enough to do so, however, our constitutional law says we can.

Anyway, Pam was walking around in the Junior Fair exhibit area – alone – I recognized her, thanked her for serving, passing the conceal to carry and shook her hand.  She was extremely interested in rural women and health issues.  I introduced her to our local extension staff that was there in the office.  She talked with them about how to educate and reach rural women with the importance of mammograms.

She then followed my husband and I over to the sheep barn where we explained to her the MASS (market) program.  She was very interested to learn of this program, the positive images our 4-H kids set forth and wanted a picture of herself with Anna (our daughter).

I am thankful this “Thankful Thursday” for positive, conservative people who stand on their principals!.   Especially those who can stand and face opposition – and don’t run away from conflict!

Keep up the good work Pam Galloway – you have our VOTE!

Hollyhocks

100_0464
It just rained and I went outside to take these pictures – the pink is so bright!!!
100_0460
The lilies are growing up in between them…..
100_0461
These flowers remind me of what Jesus said in Matthew 6: 28-32:
“And why take ye thought for raiment?  Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:  And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.  Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is and tomorrow is cast in to the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, o ye of little faith?  Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithall shall we be clothed?  (for all these things the Gentiles seek) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all of these things.” KJV
Blessings from Wisconsin!
P.S.  Clouds after the storm….
